#PodCamp x Brooklyn Warehouse
So what exactly is a PodCamp? Well Its a conference of sorts. A massing of people interested in how the Internet is changing the way we live and interact with each other. Its also a series of presentations and discussion surrounding a variety of topics such as blog writing, digital commerce, and crowd-funding…that’s where we come in.
We were asked by one of the organizing bodies if we would consider presenting on the crowd-funding campaign that we are currently using to raise funds to finalize our restaurant expansion. Obviously we said YES! Getting in front of a digitally engaged group, people who use the Internet daily for communication and commerce made a whole lot of sense to us. That’s part of the framework of a successful crowd-funding campaign, sharing your vision and goal with your network, and their networks. We couldn’t think of a better opportunity to engage a group of people with an enormous reach.
So with the decision made, we grabbed our ILOVELOCAL travel mugs, filled up on caffeine at Two If By Sea and set out to try and educate on the merits of crowd-funding in today’s financial climate and why everyone in the room should consider it as an option for themselves.
Here’s what the presentation was listed as:
Brooklyn Warehouse is the first restaurant in Atlantic Canada to use the internet descendant ‘crowd-funding’ to assist in the expansion currently going down at the Halifax North End hotspot. Owner/Operator George Christakos will talk about what inspired the unorthodox decision, the process of unleashing it via social media, and why it may be the right move for your next project.
Overall our presentation went really really well! There were a lot of people in attendance and they asked a lot of poignant questions. I truly think we inspired people and organizations to look at crowd-funding as a potential way to engage their customers and market themselves at the same time.
The day continued on and we took in a number of other presentations, some on social media statistics, some with pictures of star destroyers over Halifax, and some about Haligonians getting free swag to review on their blogs. Lunch from Local Source and a fantastic keynote presentation by @Julien (you should really check his site out) made for a wonderful day of engaging education.
